San Bois Creek Engagement

Confederate scouts of Brigadier General William L. Cabell’s brigade encountered the Federal advance guard to General James G. Blunt’s cavalry, on the road to Skullyville, two miles west of San Bois Creek, on August 30, 1863. Skirmishing continued some ten miles east along the road, the Confederates falling back toward General Cabell’s camp on the Poteau, about eight miles south and east of Skullyville.
